Our Expertise and Services
Our team brings more than 50 years of combined experience in renewable-energy research, technology development and product innovation, with particular expertise in solar energy. Supported by a strong academic and industrial track record—including more than 500 peer-reviewed publications—we provide tailored solutions from initial concept and feasibility assessment through to technology development, testing and deployment.
Our services include:
-
Renewable-energy consultancy: Expert advice across a wide range of renewable-energy projects, with a particular focus on solar technologies and their integration into buildings, agriculture, open-field installations and small-, medium- and large-scale energy systems. Our support can include technology selection, system design, performance modelling, deployment strategy and techno-economic assessment.
-
Professional short courses and training: Bespoke courses covering renewable-energy technologies, system applications, project development, financial modelling and economic feasibility. Training can be tailored for businesses, public-sector organisations, investors, engineers, researchers and other professional groups.
-
Solar-energy research and product development: Research, design, modelling, prototyping, testing and performance evaluation of innovative solar-energy products and integrated systems. Our team’s cumulative publication record of more than 500 peer-reviewed articles demonstrates the depth and quality of our technical expertise.
-
Customised monofacial and bifacial silicon solar cells: Development and supply of tailored silicon solar-cell solutions to meet specific research, product-development and application requirements.
-
Customised semi-transparent solar greenhouses: Design and development of semi-transparent photovoltaic greenhouse solutions that combine renewable-electricity generation with appropriate daylight transmission and crop-growing conditions. These systems can be tailored to different crops, climates, structures and energy requirements.
-
Solar measurement and analysis: Comprehensive measurement, monitoring and evaluation of solar resources and photovoltaic-system performance. Our services include solar irradiance assessment, site evaluation, energy-yield forecasting, shading and soiling analysis, thermal-performance monitoring, system-efficiency assessment, fault identification and long-term performance evaluation. Using advanced instrumentation, data analytics and modelling techniques, we provide reliable technical evidence to support system design, technology selection, performance optimisation, investment decisions and the deployment of solar installations across buildings, agricultural environments, open fields and small- to utility-scale projects.
Whether you are developing a new renewable-energy concept, evaluating an investment opportunity, improving an existing solar product or seeking a customised technical solution, our team can provide independent, research-led and commercially focused support.

A clean energy solution for buildings

ABOUT BUILD SOLAR

OUR STORY
Following many years of research into integrated solar technologies, a small team from the University of Exeter decided to create a spin-out company to develop some of their innovative ideas.
The company is led by entrepreneur and solar scientist Dr Hasan Baig and world-leading renewable energy scientist Professor Tapas K. Mallick.

OUR VISION
Buildings consume more than forty percent of the electricity produced across the globe.
Deployment of standard solar technology is limited by the large area requirement and the negative visual impact. We want to overcome these limitations by introducing technologies that become a part of the building's envelope.
We aim to BUILD integrated, affordable, efficient, and attractive SOLAR technologies as part of the building's architecture, in places where energy demand is highest, whilst having minimal impact on the landscape and on quality of life.

OUR TECHNOLOGY
Build Solar is supported by cutting-edge research, carried out at the University of Exeter. It brings together the latest solar technology and embeds it within conventional construction materials. This combination provides access to new markets and creates opportunities to deploy solar technologies within urban environments.
